How to Safely Pack & Move a TV

Moving a TV can be tricky especially when it’s a big flat-screen you want to keep in perfect shape. The best way to protect it is by using the right box and packing it properly so it stays safe during the move.

If you’ve hired movers for your relocation in Dallas, check if they offer special boxes for delicate items. Many movers have flat-panel TV boxes designed to give your TV extra protection. Along with that, follow these simple tips to make sure it stays secure while being moved.

Unplug the Power Cord

Before moving your TV, make sure to unplug the power cord. If possible, remove it from the back of the TV to make handling easier. Leaving it attached can cause it to tangle, trip someone or lead to an accident.

Remove the Base

This step isn’t always necessary but if your flat-screen has a large base, it’s better to take it off. Keeping it on can make the TV harder to pack in the box and more difficult to carry.

Keep Everything Together

It can be annoying to set up your TV in your new home and realize the cords or screws are missing. To prevent this, store the base, hardware and cords together in one safe spot.

Wrap Your TV Before Putting It in a Box

Protect your TV by wrapping it well with foam or bubble wrap before placing it in the box.

You can use stretch plastic wrap to hold the foam or bubble wrap in place, keeping it secure and preventing scratches.

If you don’t have foam or bubble wrap, you can use furniture pads, a sheet or a blanket as another option.

Make Sure the TV Fits Securely in the Box

Once your TV is wrapped and placed in the box, ensure it’s held tightly so it doesn’t shift during the move. Fill any empty spaces with soft materials like furniture pads, blankets, foam or bubble wrap to keep it snug and protected.

Keep the TV Upright

A common mistake when moving a TV is laying it flat. Always keep it standing upright and position it carefully. Placing it between sturdy items like a mattress or dresser can help keep it steady. The main goal is to prevent it from sliding or tipping over during the move.

When preparing your flat-screen for moving, use the right box and follow these steps. If it’s not packed well, it could end up cracked, scratched or broken — and repairs or replacements can be costly. If you’re worried about damage, you can hire STI Moving & Storage to handle it. Professional movers know how to pack and transport TVs safely so they arrive in perfect condition.
