Three Uses of Cellophane for Your Next Move

If you’ve moved before, you already know the usual packing supplies and what they’re for. Boxes and bins come in all shapes and sizes to fit different items. Tape is used to keep them sealed and colored tape can make labeling easier if you like a color-coded system. Bubble wrap and packing paper help protect things inside. But have you ever thought about using cellophane during a move? It can actually be more useful than you might expect.

Cellophane is a stretchable wrap that sticks only to itself, so you don’t need tape or glue when wrapping things. Some of its benefits include:

  • It comes off clean without leaving sticky residue or causing damage.
  • It’s sold in different roll sizes.
  • You can get it with a dispenser which makes wrapping easier.
  • When pulled tight, it fits securely around your items.

For your next move, here are three ways you can make use of cellophane:

1. Furniture with Drawers

Moving dressers or nightstands can be tricky. You either have to remove the drawers or stop them from sliding open. Taking them out takes more effort and tape could damage the paint or wood. Cellophane is a great solution—just wrap it tightly around the furniture from top to bottom to keep the drawers in place.

2. Fragile Items

Instead of covering every breakable item with bubble wrap and tape, you can use cellophane to pack delicate belongings in a box. It’s quicker and saves time with each piece you pack. You can also wrap it around TVs or computer screens to add extra protection and reduce the risk of damage.

3. Fish Tanks

Moving fish is always a challenge but if your tank is five gallons or smaller, you don’t need to take it completely apart. Just cover the top with cellophane to keep the water from spilling, then place the tank in a Styrofoam box to protect the glass from breaking.
